David’s background is predominantly in Private Client Stockbroking, having joined Redmayne Bentley Stockbrokers in Leeds shortly before the crash of 1987. He subsequently qualified as a fully-fledged Private Client Stockbroker in the early 1990s, helping to establish the firm’s Investment department before leaving after 27 years.
During his time at Redmayne Bentley, David became one of their most prominent media voices, appearing regularly on Look North, BBC Breakfast, Bloomberg, Calendar and CNBC. He also wrote a weekly column for the Yorkshire Evening Post for over a decade.
He then moved to private wealth manager Andrews Gwynne, an investment-led financial advisory firm. A decade later, Andrews Gwynne was acquired by IM Asset Management – the investment arm of law firm Irwin Mitchell. Following Irwin Mitchell’s decision to sell this non-core division to Shackleton Advisors, David chose to move on, joining Williams Investment Management in March 2026. He brings with him a wealth of experience and a distinct skill set that Williams intends to make full use of as the firm develops its Private Wealth Management offering for both existing and new clients.
David describes himself as someone who is completely absorbed by markets – a passion that leaves little room for switching off – but when he does step away, he enjoys mountain biking (increasingly of the electric variety) and walking in the Lakes.
